Crowdfunding Turtle Research.

In 2012, after striking out using conventional ways of finding money for my doctoral research, I found a way to crowdfund my research studying the nutrient cycling of freshwater turtles in the southeastern U.S. (check out my video). This funding venture was initiated by the SciFund Challenge (through RocketHub), which was an experimental approach to see if scientists could earn money for their research through crowdfunding. In the end, I earned 114% of my goal with the help of 104 crowdfunders and was the highest earning project of >70 scientists across the world. I am incredibly grateful for this experience and thankful to SciFund Challenge (Jai Ranganathan and Jarrett Byrnes) and those that contributed to my cause.
